Built
hard against the Bannock Range, Visitors seeking adventure won't
need to head far to find some real treasures. For good hiking and
mountain biking, the Gibson Jack Trail is just south of town off
the Bannock Highway. A bit farther south, the Mink Creek area offers
more trails, and Pebble Creek Ski Area has 2,200 feet of vertical
drop served by three lifts, plus a snowboard half-pipe. Winter and
summer, Lava Hot Springs draws people to its natural soaking pools—a
soothing treat indeed after a hard day on the slopes or trails.
If time is short, simply enjoy a walking tour of central Pocatello.
Simplot Square is a pleasant plaza with a fountain along West Center
Street, and the 1901 Standrod Mansion, one of Idaho's finest old
homes, can be viewed at 648 North Garfield Street. Regardless of
how you spend your day, you'll be working up an appetite, so cap
of your visit by treating yourself to a meal at one of the several
excellent restaurants in Pocatello. |
